This course mentions using an altar which can be a sacred and wonderful space in your home for continued spiritual work.Continue reading if you are interested in creating an altar for your work with the Allowing Love course. An altar is a sacred space that mirrors your inner world, a place where intention meets form. Creating an altar helps you ground energy, invite presence, and consciously connect with spirit, love, peace, or guidance.
This is your home within a home — a physical anchor for your spiritual growth.
1. What is an Altar?
An altar is a personal sanctuary — a small area in your home dedicated to stillness, reflection, and energy alignment.
It can be simple or elaborate, inside or outside, permanent or seasonal. What matters most is the feeling it evokes in you.
When you approach your altar, it should whisper:
“You are safe here. You are seen. You belong.”
2. Choosing Your Space
Start by finding a quiet corner where you can pause without interruption.
This might be:
– A bedside table or small shelf
– A windowsill where light pours in
– A corner of your desk, in your garden, under a tree, or studio
The space doesn’t need to be large — even the top of a candle holder can become sacred when approached with intention.
Take a moment to cleanse the area: wipe it clean, light incense or sage, or simply breathe deeply and bless it with your energy.
3. Selecting Your Sacred Items
Choose objects that hold meaning or calm for you. I love to include a representation of the four elements or you can include your own emotional landscape
Element Symbol Example
Earth Grounding Stone, crystal, plant, or bowl of salt
Air Breath & clarity Feather, incense, written prayer
Fire Transformation Candle or small light source
Water Emotion & flow Bowl of water, shell, or flower
You may also include:
– A photo of a loved one or guide
– An affirmation card or your favorite quote
– Fresh flowers or rose petals
– Something symbolic of your current journey (e.g., a heart stone for healing love)
Arrange the items intuitively — let your hands and heart guide you rather than your mind.
4. Setting Your Intention
Before you place your final item, close your eyes and ask yourself:
“What do I want this space to hold for me?”
It might be peace, love, courage, forgiveness, or clarity. Whisper your intention softly as you light a candle or touch your chosen symbol.
Let your altar become a reflection of that intention — not static, but alive.
5. Using Your Altar Daily
Visit your altar as often as you can — even if just for one minute.
You can:
– Light your candle in the morning to begin your day with presence.
– Sit before it during meditation or journaling.
– Offer gratitude before bed.
As your journey changes, so can your altar. Refresh it with new flowers, replace stones, or add a symbol that represents your current healing.
6. Example: The Love Altar
For the Allowing Love journey, you might include:
– Rose petals (softness, compassion)
– A pink or white candle (love and clarity)
– A bowl of salt or crystal (grounding)
– A handwritten affirmation:
“I am safe to be loved and to love in return.”
Light your candle, breathe into your heart, and let your altar remind you — love is both your teacher and your essence.
7. Closing Blessing
Stand before your altar and whisper:
“This is my sacred space.
May love fill it.
May peace live here.
May I remember who I am whenever I return.”
Your altar doesn’t have to be perfect — it only has to be yours.
